SONiC Architecture

What is SONiC?

SONiC stands for Software for Open Networking in the Cloud. It's an open-source network operating system (NOS) originally developed by Microsoft.

SONiC supports multiple vendor-agnostic ASICs and platforms, its architecture using Linux, containers, and modular components.

It has matured into a production-ready NOS for many large-scale networks and is increasingly used beyond just hyperscale cloud providers.
